On Saturday George begins his final Tour, or as he quipped before leaving the Hincapie Sportswear office this past Monday: “My Last Lap Around France.”
As the road captain for the BMC Racing Team George’s knowledge and experience will once again be an invaluable asset as the team attempts to ride into Paris and claim a second consecutive yellow jersey. Yet, while always the consummate teammate and never one for personal records, this will be his 17th Tour – an accomplishment for which he’ll stand alone.
We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to honor George’s career and farewell to racing in France than chronicling his July journey. As much as time allows, he’ll be sending us photos that we’ll post here, so that everyone can follow along the way.
Here’s George’s first entry as the team heads to the official Tour presentation in Liège, Belgium. With George is Stephen Cummings from Clatterbridge, Great Britain.
