So sorry about the injury George. My prayers are for a speedy recovery with great rehab so you can defend your title. And maybe for you to have a little "unrequited anger" this year, too, so you can beat Levi. I've volunteered for the last three USA Pro races in Greenville (was recovering from knee replacement in 2006 and didn't have quite the stamina needed to be a marshall). Hope to see you winning this year from my station in the hospitality booth.

George - your demeanor, consistency, and strength are an inspiration to this fellow 37 year-old cyclist. You make us all proud representing the US in the pro peleton. Keep riding!

Hi George!

I ran the Xterra Paris Mt 7K this morning, and coming home saw you riding up the mountain. I gave you a friendly honk, and it was great that you waved back (like every South Carolinian it seems). Thanks for being so friendly!

Best,
Sean

George,
I recently saw a documentary about you on the FIT tv "Athletes" program last evening 8/5/10. As a family man with 4 daughters, and in my 40's, I have been riding for a while and was very greatly impacted by the story of your family unity and support, your brothers strong bond and encouragement, and most importantly your "Lack of superstar ego".
I was most impressed that a man of your caliber is able to see outside of himself, see the big picture, see the importance of the team, and then by riding as a member, to bring the team success by "fulfilling a role" rather, than seeking to "be the man" and gather self acclaim.
In that role, (as leutenant / Super Domestique) you lead the team by example, by sacrificing, by committing to someone elses victory and glory, that of your team mate Lance Armstrong. This is a characteristic not found in many men today, the ability to lead by serving. In the world of cycling, and to many including myself, you "are the man"!! You have commanded my greatest respect with your ethic, and to that we salute you as a champion.
Lastly you are involved around the community, giving back, encouraging young riders, and sharing your passion and your personhood to many, as your familes upbringing has grounded you to do, and as somthing young people can aspire to as well.
I look forward to the day that I can shake your hand, and who knows, ride a mile with you.
Continue in health, family unity and the passion for life,
Sincerly
Jon Sadowitz

We were at the Tri to Cure kids triathlon on 7/31 at Furman University and were blown away when you stopped in during the awards ceremony. What really touched us was when you helped a child open up a packaged Hincapie jersey, told him to put it on, and then handed someone your phone to shoot a picture. Thanks for stopping in on your training ride. It was a morning to remember!

George, it was a real honor to see you in person at the airport this morning. After being away on business all week, it was definetely the high point of my trip; something I will always remember. I only wish I'd had the nerve to ask for your autograph ...

Dear George,

Man, have you come a long way since back when we used to race together for the Kissena Cycling Club at the Kissena track and Prospect Park in New York. I don't know if you remember me or my younger brother Bobby (Robert) Rodriguez, he was a junior with you. All I know is Al Toefeld would be extremely proud of you if he were alive, yet I know he's been watching you from heaven in your successes. As for myself, The best races I could remember were when I was going toe to toe with you. Like when I asked Al for advice before a track race and he told me to get on a good wheel, so I got on yours and after placing second because you took that race, Al told me I got on the best wheel. I remember your father when he used to work for Pan Am at J.F.K. Airport and I was a U.S. Customs Inspector. He was always pushing you to be better, like making you ride in the Class B & Class A races back to back in Prospect Park when you were young. I always wondered if you really liked to ride or if you did it because your father told you to. Either way, your father had a lot to do with your career. I highly respect him for having the courage to push you into cycling because he saw you had the potential and I'm sure he also greatly loved the sport. I wish I could do the same for my son who is now 16 and has your same physique but doesn't want to ride even though I bought him a new racing bike, new shoes and outfits. Its frustrating for me to love a sport so much and have a son that's not interested in it. I even took him to the Kissena Track once to see some races and he still wasn't interested in it. That's why you should thank your father everyday for steering you in the right direction, something I envy about you two. Like brothers working for the same goal. Hopefully you can help your son or daughter someday like that. Well, whenever I get the chance I mention to whoever I can that we used to race in the same club. I've got a long list of races that I've won, ex. the Individual Pursuit in the World Police & Fire Games, 50 mile road race in the National Law Enforcement Championships, 25 mile road race/ten mile race/800meter sprint in the New York State Police Olympics and not to mention all the championships in the Kissena Cycling Club like the Labor Day Races. Well, keep in touch.
